Rosemont’s online Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing Studies is designed for adult students who wish to hone their writing skills and aptitude, whether for personal, creative, or professional purposes. The 120-credit online degree program is available to students with little or no prior college credits, as well as to those who hold an associate’s degree in any liberal arts or related discipline.

You’ll be supported by faculty who have firsthand experience in the field, and by staff who are trained in supporting busy, working adults.


A Well-Rounded Curriculum

The BA in Writing Studies curriculum consists of 120-credits (40 courses). Students can transfer up to 90-credits, which can include credit for life experience determined through a Prior Learning Assessment.

Writing Studies Major Requirements (30 credits required)

  • WRT 0210: Advanced Rhetoric
  • WRT 0245: Social Justice in Creative Writing
  • WRT 0240: Business Writing
  • WRT 0251: Writing in Digital Environments
  • WRT 0252: Introduction to Creative Writing
  • ENG 0222: American Literature I Major American Writers Beginnings to 1890
  • ENG 0223: American Literature II: Major American Writers 1890-1940
  • ENG XXXX: Choose from any World Literature course
  • ENG or LIT ELE: Choose from any 300-400 level literature or writing course
  • ENG 0490: Senior Seminar

Writing Studies Major Electives (15 credits required)
Students will be allowed to complete up to 12 credits (4 courses) of graduate-level Publishing or Creative Writing coursework towards the Writing Studies Major Elective requirements.

General Electives (33 credits)
The program allows for 11 elective courses, allowing students opportunities to further customize their learning. This also allows flexibility for those transferring in previous credits that may not map to the core, focus, or general education curriculum.

General Education (42 credits)
In addition to meeting the course requirements and electives listed above, all students must also fulfill 42 credits of General Education requirements. These include courses in writing, humanities, science, and multiculturalism. These courses reflect Rosemont’s approach to a liberal arts education.
